As stated by Pennsylvania's Medical Society, "The posting of any PHI, without patient authorization, on social media may constitute a HIPAA violation. This includes any text, image, video, or other media identifying the individual as a patient of the practice as well as any media in which patients of a practice or PHI are visible". While covering the opening of a health clinic on our high school campus, there were many things I had to consider while putting together the news package. I avoided getting an interview with a patient in order to keep from violating any laws. While filming b-roll I made sure to not record certain rooms, charts, and patient info.
The Arkansas Supreme Court visits different high school campuses to hold an oral argument for students to hear. While court was in session, unless authorized, people were not permitted to record or take photos in any form. In order to produce a quality story I showed up to the event early to get footage of the justices, the stage where the trial was held, and people attending the trial. During the case I did not record, but once the split session began I collected footage and gathered interviews.
